Going to Chile & Argentina

I'm leaving for Chile and Argentina this week. I won't be udpating the blog until I get back -- unless I get bored or rained on and wind up in an internet cafe.So tonight, I have a mountain of laundry to do, and a magic THE Magic backpack to pack. Take care, and have a good Thanksgiving. I know I will.

Very Cussler-esque

This is a crazy news story. (There are cool pics there)

A YACHT sailing out of Vava'u motored into a strange "sea of stone" on August 12, and the following day its crew became possibly the first people to witness the birth of a new volcanic island that has been forming in Tonga.

The Maiken (the yacht) has it's own blog with the full post here. Those pics are nuts. I don't know if I could sail like that- seems too isolating, but maybe that's the draw.

JV Won, But Shakira Won More

Marc reminded me that the Latin Grammys were last night. I didn't see them though. According to the news sites Shakira won a lot of shit. Julieta did win Best Alternative Album though for Limon y Sal. But from what I understand, that category is presented pre-telecast. So she won, but wasn't on tv. Oh well. Just a reminder - she is coming to the Filmore on the 19th. I'll be out of town, but you should go.

Up Yours *$

Uh oh, another kenny-rant. . . . Man, Starbucks pissed me off this morning. I was running early and thought I'd stop in at *$ to pick up one of those "buckets of joe" aka, their Coffee Traveler, for my team at work. The one closest to the office was out of the cardboard box things. The guys there are nice and said- we'll call the other place around the corner and tell them you're coming- and I said- that's fine if you can't (they were really busy) because I'm early and can wait.

So I truck it down to the one on the next block. Of course there's a huge line, and I wait. I get up to the front, tell the chickie pie that kenny pie wants a bucket o' joe. Her eyes get big and she says, I'll be right back. She walks to the back, gets a manager, points at me and mouths "he wants a traveler" (they're too far away for me to hear at this point. Oh, and they also have the heater set to 103F so the "barista boy" is sweating more than I do on my afternoon bus when I'm surrounded by cuties. The manager yells over and it's 103F, 10 blenders going, shitty music playing and 300 people jabbering- "sir, you want a travxxxx"? (I still can't hear her). I cup my hand to my ear and say "traveler? yeah, I want one". (they both stay by the back door) "Sir, it'll be about thirrxxxx" (I still can't hear because they both refuse to walk over) I ask "what?" and cup my hand to my ear again. "Sir, it'll be about thirty minutes."

30 Minutes? Good lord. I said, nevermind, thank you, I'll call next time. The manager yelled over something, but I still couldn't hear. She still wouldn't walk over (nor would the original cashier) so I left. Had I just walked to effing Peet's like I wanted to, I would've had coffee for the team. OR I should've just made an espresso for myself this morning since I was up early. Uggh.

Moral of the story, I'm either an old deaf man, or a 15 year old girl, depending on what I'm blogging about, Veronica Mars or how loud Starbucks is.

Clarification for Andreas

Andreas, I must've pulled a Kerry, lemme explain the joke-

The reason I wrote "damn foreigners" in the last post was due to comments on SF Gate that I meant to link to. I forgot to link, hence the odd comment.

Usually whenever the hard hitting SF Chronicle has an article about gangs or shootings or problems with something (Spare the Air Days, for example) there are always comments online that place the blame on people from Oakland or Richmond, or just the East Bay in general. Ya know, like Raiders fans. Yuck.

Sure enough, after the shooting story, there were comments like the following all over (some have been pulled):

SF_Native - what are you talking about? This problem has nothing to do with SF. It's the trash from the East Bay who come over and cause these problems.

I say shut off the Bay Bridge and BART for 24 hours and keep 'em out so that we can have a proper halloween to ourselves!

Start an event in Oakland on MacArthur and one on Richmond Blvd in Richmond. Have Snopp Dogg perform. The Castro will be suddenly safe.

Anyway. . . . It's mildly amusing to see a "news site" open up the "articles" for comments.

Sick Day?

Wow, here's a weird way to be told to not show up for work- uh, don't come in, we had a bomb go off. See ya Thursday? Kthanks, bye. (Not *me*, my friends)

In other news, I think the neocons may have been right. If you allow gay marriage, you allow shootings? Only joking, that's not funny. It was probably East Bay riff-raff coming in. Damn foreigners. But that's a lot of shootings in one night in Angie's neighborhood.

Today apparently is Vegan Day. But I had never heard about that before, which makes it less known of a holiday than Talk Like a Pirate Day.

Continuing the news roundup, we turn to sports- Go Spurs! OU still sucks as do both the Niners and Raiders.

In fashion, now that it's winter, the ladies are bustin out the nice skirts and niiiiiice boots. Kenny likes. That is all.
