Donde Quakes?

Not great news about the Quakes return to SJ (granted, this is off a rumor site):

The team will not be playing in Spartan Stadium, which opened in 1933, on the campus of San Jose State University.

...Instead it is very likely that the new, new Earthquakes will split their games for the next two seasons among Santa Clara University, Oakland and Sacramento.

Sacto? Yuck. I'm not driving that far for a game.

Trogdor Sighting

Some "arsonist" (or possibly some neon lights) burned the Burning Man a bit early. I know I shouldn't offend all the neo-hippies nshit, but I couldn't stop laughing when I read that in the news. more and even more.

I know some people who are way into BM. But when I see Marina chicks on the bus reading phamplets about "Attending Your First Burning Man" and are taking notes, it's hard to think the $100+ event is "cool". You know you jumped the shark long ago.

Mmmmeat

appetizers 1Remember a while back when I wrote about some good crack? Well, the crack keeps flowin, or is it tumbling?

A while back I had told Kevin and Lisa I'd cook for them (at their place) for their bdays - actually I think I said I'd cook two meals, one would be a curry dinner a la Brad, and the other would be whatever was good on the day they picked. So on Saturday, it was time to pay the piper.

Mmm, I love cookin'.

Two Quotes From Gazza

Two quotes from my friend Gazza. One of them came up on IM last night in a quick chat with Chuck . . . These are just the quotes, I'm too tired to type the full stories behind them

although he was talking about TV in Blighty, and I'm paraphrasing

Friday night television is your friend. It's there for you. You've had a long week buddy, here are some good shows. But god forbid if you don't go out on Saturday night- Saturday night TV is there to punish you.

and

Places aren't boring, people are

Blog Cliches

While I hate "lists", this is a good post: Thirteen Blog Clichés. I may be inspired to make some changes- especially as I do a lot of those 13 items.

Sandy

Hrm, I was going to write about how I've been beta testing Sandy, but I re-read my email invite and it says to keep your moth shut about details for now.

I will say it's pretty slick so far, but I'm not sending notes to my phone yet. Check it out though if you get the chance. It's pretty intuitive if you've been using the same company's site, Stikkit. It may find more use from me if I start sending messages to it from my phone.

Thoughts on Soccer

Another reason that my dvd watching has slowed down a bit is due to watching more soccer. And I had a quick little thought while watching a pre-game and line up.

This is going to sound a bit mean, but one of the things I like about watching Beckham play for LA is that he took the captain's armband from Landon Donovan. I like that.

Treatment Effect

My brother Adam sent this story to a mailing list we're both on. I "lol'd" as the kids say.

From: Adam
Subject: Alii

Not sports related, but the story takes place in a Whataburger, so....

Kenneth you will like this, it is poo related!

link

I remember when Olestra first came out and Jeffrey Steingarten (I think it was him, I'm probably wrong about that) or another writer in Vogue wrote and exposé on Olestra and came up with the term OIT™ or "olestra in toilet".

What's interesting about Adam's link is that when I've pasted it on IM, I know who my real friends are by their reactions- either "lol" or "yuck".

DVD Roundup 8/16

A sad DVD Roundup. . .

I just realized I hadn't written about and dvd rentals recently- or at least, what amounts to my writing.

I just took a look at my rental history in Netflix and realized that I've slowed dramatically in my dvd viewing. I know I was busy with the move and some visitors, but not that busy. But I think I know what the main cause of the slowdown is-- cable tv.

No Pizza For You

Here's an interesting article about an award winning pizza maker who can't have a wood-fired pizza oven due to the PRK's anti-pollition laws.

No pizza for you, no, not yours

Walk Score?

Hrm, I got a 91, Cory got a lame 75 and yet somehow my folks' new place is a lowly 42 (near the river??! and King William? how is it that low).

wtf am I talking about? Walk Score, check it out.

I put in Angie & Mike's address and they get a near perfect 98?! I think my parks are better than theirs. I get Mountain Lake Park, the Presidio, GG Bridge, and GG Park. They get tranny hustlers sleeping in Dolores Park. . . whatever.

From the site:

What does my score mean?

Your Walk Score is a number between 0 and 100. The walkability of an address depends on how far you are comfortable walking.after all, everything is within walking distance if you have the time. Here are general guidelines for interpreting your score:

* 90 - 100 = Walkers' Paradise: Most errands can be accomplished on foot and many people get by without owning a car.
* 70 - 90 = Very Walkable: It's possible to get by without owning a car.
* 50 - 70 = Some Walkable Locations: Some stores and amenities are within walking distance, but many everyday trips still require a bike, public transportation, or car.
* 25 - 50 = Not Walkable: Only a few destinations are within easy walking range. For most errands, driving or public transportation is a must.

Either way, fun to play with.

B.O.

Quick blurb from the CSM via my buddy Simon.

Reporters on the Job
from the August 8, 2007 edition

-Paint it Green: Driving to a meeting with BOCOG, the abbreviated shorthand for Beijing's 2008 Olympic organizing committee, correspondent Simon Montlake says the air pollution was so bad that visibility could be measured in terms of city blocks. Yet, when he interviewed Olympic officials for today's story (see story) they assured him there would be blue skies by the opening one year from today.

"It was unreal to be in this meeting and be told that everything is going to be clean and green," says Simon.

Still, he says that ultimately China will do whatever it takes to make it happen. Whether it means seeding clouds to create rain or shutting down industrial plants ahead of the games, China will pull out all the stops. "If it comes to [making the city] green, they'll paint it green, literally," says Simon.

Fake Jobs

Tagged as: ,

With regards to headlines today like:
"Fake Steve Jobs" blogger exposed as Forbes editor I ask the following two q's QoTD(s):

1) who gives a shit?
2) if the person weren't an editor for Forbes with access to news wire services (or vice versa) would anyone know about the story or care? (see q1) No one would've picked up the story. It's like Forbes is doing their own blogspam . . .

Car Update

Okay, my posts have been a bit negative lately, but understandbly so -- especially that last one.

So instead of being negative, let's be positive for a change. .

In & Out Auto Glass on Custer kicks ass. Since the jackass broke the most expensive window on a car you can break . . . the small "vent" window . . . I knew I'd be out a pretty penny.

After calling around some of the glass places recommended on hipster-CitySearch2.0yelp.com I just tried some random places from the phone book. In & Out were about $100 cheaper than everyone else. It only took them 30 minutes (if that) to fix everything. I think it was faster, but I wound up talking to the owner for a while.

Now, if I can only find out if the dash is repairable . . .

Speaking of cool stores/shops, I got my sofa and chair delivered yesterday. I *highly* recommend going to Robert at SF Sofas on Brannan (the website's kinda jacked or I'd link to it).

Now I just need to get the plasma and then I'll be keeping up w/ the Jones'Siddens.

Dear Jackass

Dear Jackass,

Thank you for ruining my morning. I'm glad you decided that my old Honda Civic was an enticing enough target for you that you decided to break in to it.

I hope you enjoy the mp3 cds that I burned. They contain random Argentinian songs and albums as well as other great hits from Latin America. My friends hate that music, but perhaps in the future we can bond over the vocal stylings of Vicentico and not worry about our friends making fun of our MBFM™.

I'm sorry that you don't know how to drive a standard car. I could clearly see this morning that you tried to take my lovely old black civic, but the addition of a third pedal and a gearshift obviously threw you off your game. Touché for me. Perhaps you didn't have a stable enough home life and a father or mother figure to teach you how to drive a real car. I did, advantage me.

But you didn't have to take out your lack of a life on the center console of the car when you stole the stereo. You're such an uneducated cunt that you didn't even realize the brackets which hold the stereo headset would easily release the head unit, letting you slip your bounty away and in turn, you with it out into the foggy Inner Richmond night.

So now, not only do I have to replace a tiny rear window, am I not sure I can replace the head unit without replacing a huge section of my dashboard. If we ever meet, I've decided that I shall take out my frustration on your left knee or your nose.

If I had the time I would use more resources to track you down --perhaps with the FasTrak you took from the glove compartment, or a discarded cigarette butt- but alas I do not have the time right now, so our meeting will have to be by chance. I look forward to that day.

Thank you for your time,

Kenneth S.

Okay, Chuck has already messaged me to point out some inaccuracies about the map company in my last rant. But we do still agree that MySanantonio.com sucks donkey balls.
