300 - ***

Well, maybe that tranny story I told had some subliminal truth to it. Let's see how Sunday's events go together. I drove to the Castro to pick up Angie. We went to the movies to see 300. I had a Queen CD in my car stereo. Yeah, all three of those things go together (not that there's anything wrong with that. . . ).

I feel guilty that I wanted to give this 2 stars originally. But it's true. When I came out of the theater I was flying high thinking- oh, this will be four stars for sure. Either I need to see it again, or the 3DMT ™ has worked its magic.

The good: respects the source material; good acting; visually stunning; good stunts*; excellent sound (they had the sound cranked up at Daly City 20); entertaining. . . .

The bad: extremely predictable story and cliched bad guys

Notes: chicks will love this- tons of eye candy for the men; I of course lovedappreciated in an artistic way the nudity of the Oracle, the Queen and the few Persian dancers, except that Boxing Helena one. . . (aww who am I kidding, I'd still date her)

Is it worth seeing in the theater? Yeah, it is. Would I see it again? Sure. Do I have much more to add? Not really. A reluctant 3 asterisks.

Angie thinks it will go into semi-permanent rotation at the Castro Theater soon.

*For some reason, I dunno, maybe because of Tae Kwon Do, I really like movies that are shot like 300 where they slow down and speed up the stunts. 300 was filmed in 50fps I think (I could be wrong on this) and it was great how they could really slow down the action as a massive punch was landing or a spear was stabbing. But what impressed me was when they were fighting the bad guys, I wound up watching how the bad guys acted after they had been stabbed or hit (or lost limbs) really nice flips, spins and hard landings.

One other thing- Gerard Butler's assaccent was really distracting at times. When he was talking about Sparta, it reminded me of ME doing a horrible impression of Eddie Izzard impersonating Connery as Bond. "Ehr, Mish Moneypenny . . .Dish is Shparta!"

there was dialogue? who knew! as i've said whenever someone asks how this movie was... "if you ever question your sexual preference, this movie will set your ass in the right direction." i now know without a single doubt that i love men. hot damn! i even told my persian friend, "it's a shame you're boycotting because there's some hot ass in that movie." poor girl.
