Quick DVD Roundup 10/19

You know what makes me sad? The fact that most of my movie "reviews" are DVDs. I used to go the actual theater all the time. Now I have to really think about when I went last.

There's stuff out now that I'd like to see in the theaters too. I even got some free tickets courtesy of my cool VP's, so maybe this trend will change. Anyway, here's your DVD roundup for the month. Once again, there are some that I watched that aren't worth mentioning because they sucked ass. The rest of these were the floaters in the toilet bowl of netflix.

The House of Flying Daggers - * Good lord, what a sappy melodramatic soap opera. You know what I'm getting sick of? Movies like this that are described as "sweeping epic dramas". That's a nice way of saying "A Soap Opera with a good enough budget to get a kick ass cinematographer and a hot chick."

Saw - 0 There's one star here because you get to see some of the main stars get hurt. It's enough to make you wish it really happened. On a side note, you know the guy stuck in the room with Cary Elwes? Yeah, he co-wrote the flick and cast himself. This movie sucks.

Deadwood Season 2 (episodes 1-3) - *** Ah, my love affair with the show continues. I'm just now at the part where Al's getting his kidney stone fixed. Ow. Hopefully the season will get better. I think after three episodes of Season 1 I was hooked more than I am on three of this season's.

Solaris - ** This is another movie that makes me glad I have the 3DMT™ I hated it while I was watching it, but was hooked for some reason. And I kept thinking about it over and over. It's filmed well, and has good acting. Granted, it's a bit self-aware in a Soderbergh way, but overall a nice flick. I almost gave it a three, but a character bugged me too much.

The Devil Wears Prada - *** I saw this on my flight to Chicago. It was surprisingly good. No, seriously. For reals. Meryl Streep is awesome. Of course you know how it's going to play out, but it still entertains. The only negative comment is - wtf, like we're supposed to believe the lovely Anne Hathaway is "chubby" at the start? (she supposedly slims down to fit in) Whatever. But like I said- surprisingly good. The only way it'd get more stars if I directed it and I called it - Anne Hathaway wears Prada, but leaves it on Kenny's floor when she comes over.
