Where's Ponch?

Where are Ponch and John when you need them? And wtf is up with traffic lately? Yesterday this guy narrowly missed me when he was running a red light. And Ponch and John did get him, so things are good. The guy didn't even see their lights to pull over (this was on 19th) so when I was pulling up next to him I honked and waved, then P&J hit their sirens to get him to pay attention. Yeah, I'm an ass, but that's ok.

But the other night, I saw a nasty wreck in the middle of Stanyan and Fulton. I was going uphill and was #2 in line to take a left onto Fulton from Stanyan. There was a guy coming up the hill in the right lane (to cross and go on towards Geary) and as he was going through the intersection, a dude going East on Fulton full on ran the light and hit the back panel of the first dude, spinning his car around like Tony Hawk. Crazy stuff. No one was hurt, although I bet the spinee was feeling it the next day. And then as I was getting home and was looking for parking I saw a near miss! And this morning a ped almost got tagged by a bus! (The ped was asking for it though) And right after that an air-headed ho' from the Marina bus almost got tagged by a UPS van backing in to a driveway! What's going on people? Why all the near misses?

You know what else was weird, there was a cute girl on the bus today (well, that's not news) and she had a short haircut that was cute with her red hair, even though her fake emo hipster boyfriend had the same haircut. But then I thought the girl looked like Eric Stoltz (seriously, a lot like him). And then I got creeped out like in a Tilda Swinton in Orlando meets the Crying Game kinda way. Ewww.

I don't know which is more disturbing, the car wrecks or the Eric Stoltz girl.

Convergence

I meant to write about something that had been bugging me but work's been keeping me preoccupied. I was just reminded so I thought I'd jot down the thoughts before I forgot again.

I'm a bit bugged that three points have come together in a disturbing fashion:

The fact that the N64 Kid is in a car ad doesn't bug me, the fact that I immediately recognize the kid from YTMND.com does. Man, I'm a nerd. What? You don't know what YTMND.com is? It's pointless giggly fun.

The fact that I giggle and tear up while watching some of them just reminds me how nerdy I am. Stupid net cliches, but I love them.

Links: History | N64 kid search

What's wrong with that? Nothing really, other people have complained about Lyman selling out. But what freaks me out is that hearing Lyman's voice makes me poop my pants, almost instantly.

I have a pavlovian reaction to his voice. To me, it means, what I'm telling you is very important, hard-hitting news and you should pay attention. Watching Frontline does that to you. You hear Lyman, you think your constituitional rights have gone away or someone was just shot.

Frontline can be scary enough to make you poop your pants. Ergo, watch Frontline, hear Lyman- watch Frontline, poop your pants- hear Lyman, pants are choc full 'o pooh.

So to combine his voice with the image of the N64 kids confuses me. I now laugh THEN poop my pants.

In fact, people complained about Lyman "selling out" long ago. I don't think he sold out. He has a great voice. Actors need work when they can get it. Check out his website link above.

Well, that's what I meant to tell you about, my faithful readers. Now go kill time watching some YTMND.com things. I highly recommend Cosby Bebop, The Once and Future King. (let the boy try!!), and the ubiquitous Set Phasers to Rock.

Just remember to put on your headphones. And your diapers.

No more D to the Iddy?

Oh noes!?. Hey, I got an idea-- how about using the name "Sean"? Or perhaps "No one listens to me"?

Good Morning!

A funny thing happened on the way to work. Well, not really funny. . . But this wouldn't be the way I'd want to start my day.

The whole thing could have been avoided (read the pic descriptions), but it's the guy in the truck's fault I guess. But I'm not a lawyer, I only play one on TV.

Frontline - Tank

Did any of you catch Frontline last night. I only saw part of it because I forgot it was on. You see- they moved Veronica to Tuesdays to put the nail in the coffin on that shit-show "The Unit" (which sucked again last night, but that's a separate rant. Not even Colm Meaney could save The Unit. . . ).

Anyway, it was The Tank Man episode. Quite riveting.. . One of the weird parts though was when they showed the congressional hearings with Microsoft, Google, Yahoo and Cisco.

They were speaking about censorship and collaborating with the host countries's .govs. Granted- this wasn't specifically about Tank Man at this point, but the side discussion of Chinese censorship and media control, but I was fascinated with the story of the Chinese journalist recently sentenced to 10 years of prison and the congressional hearing that followed. They showed the clip of Rep Chris Smith asking/comparing what Yahoo! did to . . . I'm rambling, I need to find the actual quote. . . (what follows isn't from the hearing, but from a different interview)

SMITH: If the Nazi`s half a century ago were knocking on doors and saying, "where`s Ann Frank? We want to find Ann Frank." And people were staying, "she`s upstairs, why don`t you just go up and arrest her?" That`s exactly what we`re doing in a very sophisticated way, we being these U.S. corporations.

Put in that context, that's pretty harsh. Granted, knowing congress, they'll try to restrict our business in China, which I don't agree with (as a psuedo-libertarian) - but I do agree that we shouldn't be handing over data to other .govs.

Wow, what an incoherent and rambling post. I really should edit this later. But, I'm about to go back to work, and I don't have the same "freedoms" that Marc does ;) .

You know what else stuck with me about that episode? None of the younger chinese knew about the tank man or what the picture of him was from. Scary.

Frontline

Frontline. Uggh. The name alone is enough to cause me to stop and think "something may not be right". The show starts and I hear the narrator's voice come on. Uggh. His voice causes fear. I hear his voice and pee the floor like that kid does when he hears Gary Sinise's voice in Ransom. Actually, that kid could've just been scared of the nutty Gibson. . .

Anyway, you get my point. It's an intense show. I never intend to watch it, but somehow I'm flipping channels and I hear that voice.. . . And . . I . . can't . . . stop . . . watching . . .

criminal?Tuesday's episode was The Torture Question. The first ten minutes were enough to cause me to get an ulcer. By the fifteenth minute I was taking pepcid and stealing anti-depressants from the volvo-driving neighbors. Minute 20 found me on the floor in the fetal position drinking bourbon, popping pepcid, eating welbutrin like they're skittles and rocking myself back and forth while my arms are folded across my chest. By the end of the show I'm stunned and I am wondering how Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, John Yoo, Alberto Gonzales, Michael Scheuer, Col Pappas, Gen Sanchez and Gen Miller aren't in prison.

Use the links and watch the show online. Maybe I'm wrong. But we should be doing something about this. We're supposed to be the good guys. "Honor Bound. Defend Liberty." isn't just a slogan . . . .

Frontline and Veronica Mars. What an odd TV life I live. . . ahh, the wellbutrin's kicking in right about now. . .I gotta stop watching that show (no, not Veronica).

Random Thoughts for Saturday

Although I meant to sleep in, I still woke up a bit too early today. Good times. So I thought I'd update ye olde blogge since I hadn't rambled on about anything all week. Here're some formless and not-well-thought-out sentences:

Michael Powell is a jackass. His QOTW: "I wonder if Walt Disney would be proud." Clearly, the wrong Powell resigned. If you don't understand why his comments should get you riled up, then basically you're retarded (no offense to retards). Oh, and you should already be riled up just with his actions in 2004- Superbowl reaction, Sinclair Broadcasting, Vet's Day shelving of Saving Private Ryan. . .

Even though it's Saturday, the online versions of papers are already starting to publish editorials denouncing Powell Jr. Set up a google news alert for Michael Powell, you'll be amazed at what you read.

Hrm, I should set up something like Patrick and Jonas have for quotes, but I don't feel like messing with Blosxom this week. Every time I do, something goes wrong. . . Btw - have you messed with del.icio.us yet? You can check out what I've submitted by adding "eltejano" at the end of the url, or subscribe to my links. It's an interesting site on many levels- or you can just use it if you're bored at work. The only thing I don't like about it is when I find links to sites about better writing, or is it writing better? Writing sites make me feel like I should edit my blog more. Heh - leik that's going to hapen! Editing's for f00lz!

No movie updates this week, I'm a bit behind.

I do have a movie-related item- I read a nice editorial(?) on my favorite movie site about Kinsey. I sent the author a quick supportive email and got a nice reply. Nothing earth-shattering, but I was proud of myself for a few hours. I'm not really sure why though. . .

I was IM'ing Paul a bit yesterday about wine. He was giving me updates on the price per bottle of a wine he bought for arbitrage (well, and for enjoyment). I love that word by the way. I'll do a separate post about that though.

I'll be doing another tequila tasting soon at a friend's house after Turkey Day. I haven't done one in a while but it'll be nice to re-evaluate some of my faves and some new ones.

Well, the sun's up now, and I think I've rambled enough. Time to make some coffee and do a bit of lazy reading. I should read the dictionary, I may have misused the word arbitrage.. . .
