Infectious Weirdness
Things have been odd lately- mostly at work. There seems to be very little morale, or maybe people are just in a bad mood.
A colleague was telling me that during an interview a candidate she was speaking with had asked how the corporate culture was. She asked - "do people go out for happy hours?". She wanted to say, "yeah, there are a lot, we have them whenever someone leaves."In fact there was a happy hour the previous night- two people had given notice or were leaving. They seemed to be the happiest people at the bar. Granted, 99% of the people had come straight from work and I had gone home first (on my bike) so I was late and had some 'catching up' to do. I'm not saying everyone was bitter, but it wasn't the most positive group I've hung out with in a while. I'm sure I was the same way later, although I only had 1.5 hefeweisens. I guess all of this has been on my mind a lot lately. I've been extremely stressed out just with my normal workload (which keeps expanding) in the past few weeks. And to add to that, when I found out that another colleague of mine had given notice, I was really bummed out. I'm happy for him/her, and I'm sure he/she is going to a cool new gig, but it really made me sit back and think- "hrm, should I be updating my resume too?" I don't like thinking about stuff like that, for the most part I'm in a great spot but things have changed around me. The biggest reason I hate this situation is because when I want to talk about it with friends, it sounds like I'm whining- in a way I am, but I don't want to just constantly whine. Everyone needs something to whine/bitch about with their jobs (that's why they pay us to show up), but not everyone else likes to hear about it. Okay, end of venting . . .

I'm just happy I don't have a dentist appointment today. Everyday, I just thank god I don't have to go to the dentist. Work is work, but dental work. . . now that is something to complain about.

OK...
So there is this guy at the home office who is really upbeat, knowledgeable, hard working and kind. All of the time. He is in a wheelchair because doctors keep cutting bits of his legs off due to blood clots. Apparently no real treatable condition...just "oops, let's cut some more." Every time I'm down about work and I see this guy I feel like a total heel for bitching about something insignificant... ...Of course, then I secretly hate him for making me feel bad that I have legs.

screw it. bitch. if you're unhappy or just need to vent, i'll always listen to your bitching. if you don't let it out, it'll just stew inside you - doesn't matter how many legless folks or dental appointments are around.

Nothing wrong with bitching. Every one needs to bitch some of the time, whether it's justifiable or not.
Here's a tip, though: Go do a few job interviews, even if you've got no real intention of leaving. For one thing it's good to keep in practice should you ever actually need to. For another it may help put your current job into perspective.
