Lucky Kenny
Well, I thought I was having a weird week- a bit stressed out and annoyed at the early darkness that SF calls "winter" - hey, at least it's not raining (yet). But Thursday got better- we had a mobile release party (party bus!) I won an iPhone at work!
My first impression of the phone was kind of mixed. I had played with Angie's phone at her place and while I thought the quality of the thing as great, I couldn't type for crap. Granted, I was looking for boobies on youtube, but hey, I rarely misspell that even with my fat fingers. . . . (Shane, the link was here) But it wasn't incredibly easy to get used to. But in fairness I was more concerned about filming Mike's reaction to watching a gross video. But now that I have the phone hooked up correctly on my home wifi, I'm loving it. I'm still getting used to some typing and auto-correcting quirks, but thigns are good. I'll miss my trusty scarred battle beast Nokia, but I think I'll start to enjoy the iPhone. I'm just paranoid about breaking it. And before you ask, no, I haven't cracked it open and/or started hacking it with Jailbreak, although I've been tempted. Things I'm noticing/questions:
- Why can't I set a background wallpaper? I mean, I can set one, but it's only used when you wake up the device or if a call comes in.
- On my Nokia, if you txt me a url (even partial) and a number or something that looks like a number (a shortcode) I can click "use detail" and do a lot of different things with the data. So far it seems the iphone needs that data in a more "formal" format - ie using http:// before sites (http://tacohunt.blogspot.com/ not just tacohunt.blogspot.com). The same thing seems to happen for shortcode contacts.
- I'm curious to see how my battery usage goes- I'm leaving the thing on a lot just to play with it. We'll see how it does on the bus commute with the music usage . .

Will have to check the vid when I'm not@work.
You'll find many such issues with the current iphone OS if you're a techie. You can't even cut & paste! I can't wait for the SDK kit. I'm holding out as long as I can before jailbreaking it.
I got an 'incase' form-fitting rubber cover for mine on black friday (20% off!). There's pros & cons I could write a while on, but this is your blog not mine...
